{"id":1145,"date":"2016-04-28T22:32:44","date_gmt":"2016-04-29T05:32:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/community.scrippscollege.edu\/invisible\/?p=1145"},"modified":"2016-04-28T22:32:44","modified_gmt":"2016-04-29T05:32:44","slug":"black-female-artists-you-should-be-listening-to-besides-beyonce-and-rihanna","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/community.scrippscollege.edu\/invisible\/2016\/04\/28\/black-female-artists-you-should-be-listening-to-besides-beyonce-and-rihanna\/","title":{"rendered":"Black Female Artists You Should Be Listening to Besides Beyonc\u00e9 and Rihanna"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Whether or not you\u2019re the biggest Beyonc\u00e9 or Rihanna fan, you have to admit that these two fiercely black female artists are no \u201cone hit wonders.\u201d With Bey\u2019s \u201cFormation\u201d fueling the Black Lives Matter movement and her recent drop of new album \u201cLemonade,\u201d as well as the Barbadian singer\u2019s album \u201cANTI\u201d hitting number one on the Billboard 200 chart, there is no doubting their immense political and social influence as musicians and powerful women of color. Everyone knows their music is catchy; I know I\u2019m not the only one who drops whatever I\u2019m doing when \u201cBitch Better Have My Money\u201d plays on the radio. However, as someone who is eternally on the hunt for up-and-coming female electronic and hip-hop\/rap artists, I find my Spotify playlists spilling over with an eclectic amalgam of contemporary and classic bangers from a range of women artists of color.<\/p>\n<p>Below is just a sampling of a few of my favorite and most-listened tracks. Don\u2019t worry\u2014Beyonc\u00e9 and Rihanna aren\u2019t going anywhere. These women below go just as hard, if not harder, than the top chart\u2019s reigning queens.
