Have you walked into Laspa and taken a phone case, feeling a little awkward that you’re unsure of what exactly it is that you’re supporting?

Well- if you knew none, some, or all of those answers- you’ve found the right place. Welcome to the Laspa Center blog where you can learn all about us!
The start of the school year always brings new beginnings and ideas, and here’s ours: a blog to update the Scripps community on what is happening at Laspa. Here you can find information about upcoming events and collaborations, trainings, resources, and all things Laspa. For those of you who haven’t heard of us (and even for those of you who have), the Laspa Center for Leadership is a Scripps on-campus center and resource for leadership. We are here to develop and support generations of women leaders to come by providing students with the skills and knowledge we know are necessary to succeed in the 21st century.
Thee Laspa Center has already had a significant impact on the Scripps community since its opening in 2015.
Through the We Act Grant program, Laspa supports student-led leadership projects; past projects ranged from documenting oral histories in contemporary queer spaces to creating and facilitating educational workshops and trainings.
We also sponsor faculty-student dialogues to enrich the sense of community on Scripps’ campus. We are aiming to build bridges between various leaders on campus and want to bring people together. Additionally, Laspa has invited diverse groups of speakers to campus to talk about leadership in their respective fields, such as women in science or advocates for homeless women in Los Angeles. This Summer, we had our annual Student Leadership Institute, which brought regional and local leaders to campus to discuss what leadership looks like for students on campus.
We hope that by reading our blog you will be able to learn more about what Laspa has to offer, your own styles of leadership, and additional keys to success. The bulk of the blog will be dedicated to lending the spotlight to tangible, successful applications of our mission and skills. We’re not 100% future oriented, though, and will have some fun, informative posts. Check back for some interesting books to read, TED Talks, and tips on how to improve your personal leadership style! We will also post coverage of on-campus events and alert you to upcoming Laspa programs.
