Presentations are no longer confined to PowerPoint slides full of clip art and swiping transitions. Google Docs presentations offer hypermobility and sharing capabilities. Prezi wows audiences with fancy zooming effects. One of my favorites, Vuvox, allows for sliding collage presentations that can combine images with words, links, and videos. The final product can also function as a standalone informational tool that can be embedded on blogs, shared on social media, or emailed.
The strength of Vuvox lies its creative visual and multimedia capabilities. The photo editing tools make it easy to create cutouts from your pictures and craft stunning visual mashups of your visual material. Links to videos, relevant outside material, or comments can be added using “hot-spots”. Vuvox’s biggest flaw is the inability to present offline. While it is handy to have access to your beloved project anywhere with Wifi, the site can be less than mailman dependable at times. Handling the sideways sliding action also takes a little practice, but its nothing a little practice can’t overcome.
Overall, Vuvox is ideal for highly visual presentations and is real crowd pleaser. I’ve yet to give a presentation with this tool that didn’t result in people ogling and inquires into the magical format. For those who want something more creative than PowerPoint or Google Docs and less nausea inducing than Prezi, Vuvox is worth a shot!
Take a look at some of my presentations to get a feel for the possibilities.
