Sakai Updates

Sakai Updates

Please be advised that the current semester, Spring 2024, is the final semester during which Sakai will be in active use at Scripps. After this term ends, Sakai at Scripps will become a read-only resource. However, it is still expected to be used at the other colleges in our consortium.

What does this mean for me?

For Students, expect all your Scripps courses to be hosted through Canvas next semester, Fall 2024. If you plan to take cross-registered courses (i.e. at any of the other 5Cs), there is a chance they may still be held on Sakai, depending on the professor. If you have any questions about how to access course sites, please contact your professor or IT.

For Faculty and Staff, you will no longer be able to host new materials in Sakai after this semester. Project sites will not be able to be updated, and the materials will need to be exported to and shared through Box. Similarly, course site materials will need to be exported to Canvas. However, since our colleagues at the other 5C campuses will still be using Sakai, you will still be able to participate in those project sites, and/or teach in joint courses.

What should I do about this now?

Students: If you have course materials you would like to save from Sakai (e.g. submitted assignments, assignment feedback, readings, etc.), now is the best time to start exporting them! Additionally, if you have not yet had a class on Canvas, you should test your login before the next semester begins. You can log into Canvas from https://scrippscollege.instructure.com, even for courses held at the other 5Cs.

Faculty & Staff: Now is the best time to begin exporting your Sakai site materials! If you are still actively using Sakai sites (course or project) without an updated backup of your materials, please begin this process as soon as possible. A PDF of instructions is attached, or available in web format here.
