I am sure that by now you have heard of Facebook, the most popular social networking website in the world, but have you heard of Google+?
Google+ is a social networking site launched by Google Inc. in 2011. Although Facebook has been around since 2004, and has over one billion users, Google+ is quickly gaining in popularity, and some even think that it may surpass Facebook one day. Here is a quick overview of some of Facebook and Google+’s features. Facebook allows users to share status updates and pictures with their friends, as well as comment on and “like” posts. Facebook has a group feature, in which users can be added to a group by invitation. Google+ allows users to share media, whether it is pictures, videos, or text, and comment and vote on posts. The most unique feature of Google+ would have to be circles, a way of privately grouping one’s friends in order to have more control over one’s friend list.
It has commonly been said that Facebook is a site more geared towards personal interactions between real-life acquaintances, while Google+ is better for posting about content and interacting not only with real-life friends, but with strangers from around the world. Which social networking website is right for you? It is up to you to decide.
