So I got an email the other day with the weekly digest for one of the groups I follow on LinkedIn, which led me to this guy’s post with a link to a Business Insider article on Excel tips, which I have decided to share with you. How’s that for social networking? (I’ve only given you a few of the shortcuts that were new to me that I found particularly useful, so if you want to find a few more, follow the link! A formula called VLOOKUP low on the page is worth a look.)
Excel shortcuts illustrate a rare phenomenon when Mac and PC shortcuts match! For shortcuts that involve changing the number format like the ones given here, click just above the column you wish to change the format for (you’ll see a downward arrow) to highlight the whole column.
Ctrl(Control)-Shift-$
This changes the number format into currency, with two decimal places at the end for change. It uses commas to separate the thousands.
Ctrl-Shift-!
This changes the number format into a number with two decimal places and commas to separate thousands. It’s essentially the same as the currency format, but without the dollar sign.
Ctrl-Shift-%
This changes the number format into a percentage.
