[CodeLiteracy]@Scripps (merged with Scripps Women in Technology in 2015) is a group dedicated to increasing access to Computer Science education on our campus. In collaboration with the Pomona and Harvey Mudd College Computer Science Departments, we provide a variety of resources for students of all skill levels (like organizing coding workshops, holding Scripps-specific office hours, and hosting guest speakers on campus), and work to build community amongst students interested in incorporating coding into their skill sets.

Scripps College Law Society is a student-run organization dedicated to the examination and discussion of legal issues. The Society allows undergraduates to connect, reach out, and network with law professionals in the LA area, fellow Scripps students, and leaders in the field. The organization brings together like-minded, dedicated women to explore careers, justice, and real world legal issues. The law society helps members develop strong analytical and critical thinking skills through LSAT preparation and develop public speaking and leadership skills. Scripps College Law Society also provides members with law related events at the Claremont Colleges and throughout the greater Los Angeles area.

CNBC’s Bob Lang Speaks at Scripps About Options Trading

Another excellent event wrapped up this weekend–we hosted CNBC’s Bob Lang for a session on Saturday covering options trading strategies and investing psychology. This seminar taught attendees how to trade options and grow their accounts. Speaker Bob Lang is a private trader in equity and option markets at his company, Aztec Capital LLC, and the founder of Explosive Options http://explosiveoptions.net/. Through Explosive Options, Lang mentors subscribers to make options trading for income more accessible. He also serves as one of Jim Cramer’s go-to technical experts on Mad Money and regularly contributes to TheStreet.com. Previously, Lang managed a $300 million pension and 401(k) plan for Sunkist Growers and worked with floor traders in the active bond-trading group of Countrywide Capital Markets.

This event was part of an on-campus seminar series on practical investing skills organized by Scripps Women in Finance Accounting and Consulting (FAC) in partnership with Jeffrey Lin (HMC ’05) of StockSessions.com. The events are open to all Claremont Colleges students, faculty, and staff.
