Mini Lives

College has been like living mini lives, some lasting nine months, and others lasting three. Each of my lives are drastically different than the other. I spend nine months at Scripps studying hard and living with all my friends and then POOF, and I am off  in my temporary home for the summer, working five days a week, feeding myself, and socializing in the real world. Some how I have become accustomed to my mini lives and can’t imagine that they won’t be happening again soon. The next move I make will be more permanent (hopefully) but, I can’t help but already start to reminisce about my mini life from this summer.

I spent this summer doing an internship at Kleinfeld Bridal in New York City. Kleinfeld’s is the largest bridal salon in the world, and the star of the hit TLC show “Say Yes to the Dress.” Your next question is probably, “Oh my god! Are you going to be on TV?” The answer to that is yes, look out for me in the morning meetings and running around the salon. Since I am the only redhead I should be easy to spot. My biggest question, though, was “How is working at Kleinfeld going to fit into my endless search for the perfect job”?

Luckily Kleinfeld’s met and surpassed all my expectations for the summer. I like to tell people that it was boot camp for customer service. In the industry of event planning in any form, you are working for a client and nothing goes farther than having excellent customer service skills. I also was able to learn more about wedding dress designs, and even got to meet many of the designers. All summer people told me how lucky I was to have such an exciting internship, and they were right. There is nothing better than having an internship that you love, and learn from. I must also admit that it fulfilled my desire my be a pseudo reality TV star (in my mind), and allowed me to become friends with everyone that works at the shop. Yes, they are even my friends on Facebook.

My last summer as a college student was scary because it was the last. The last time that I will have a mini three month life that is filled to the brim with amazing experiences. I am the type of person that likes to have a plan, and the thought of not knowing where I am going to work and live 9 months from now is a very scary idea. Although I will miss my mini lives, I know that those mini lives have prepared my for the long road ahead that is senior year and “real life.”
